Black History Month has become more and more important to us as black filmmakers. We wanted to create something just to create. Just to push the boundaries. Just to express ourselves. Not because we are paid, but because we are passionate about stories that matter.
This concept began with our desire to define a very common phrase in Black Culture. “The Blacker the Berry, the Sweeter the Juice”. It’s widely known but perhaps not fully understood on a deeper level. We felt the need to provoke thought and leave certain ideas open for individual interpretation. In other words, keep it abstract.
The script, the imagery and the music score all play a role in delivering an artistic perspective of black culture and historic activity.
The minds, actions and voices of the men and women who have overcome so damn much for people like us to have the freedom to express.
As we close this month of celebrating Black History being a major fundamental of American History, WE salute all those who stand and kneel for change.
